Everyone would like to look their best, Your skin is often the first place to show signs of ageing and stress and needs to be taken care of properly. There are different skin types – Dry, oily, combination and if you’re lucky normal, and each one has different requirements. With an overload of information available today no wonder people get confused as to what they should be doing.

Wash your face at least twice a day (but no more than thrice) with a cleanser that suits your skin. Select your cleanser depending upon your skin type (dry, oily, normal or combination). You can also choose aloe-vera for cleansing. Be careful not to cleanse too often. Also, never wash your face with water that’s hot or too cold, as both can cause broken capillaries.

Exfoliation

Try to exfoliate your skin 1-2 times a week. Exfoliation helps replenish the required oils of the body and removes dry, dead skin cells and dirt from the face. Try to exfoliate at least once or twice a week.  Sensitive skin may require less vigour as your exfoliate. There are lots of exfoliators for sale or you could even try making your own if you are unsure which one you should be using, speak to your therapist for guidance.

Body Brushing

Everyday try to spend 5 mins to body brush brushing from your toes upwards can help to eliminate toxins and waste, increase circulation and could even make you feel less sluggish and more invigorated. Why not get your partner to body brush you for a more relaxing treat lie back or stand while they do all the hard work.

Moisturise

A basic law of beauty is that everyone, no matter what skin type, should moisturise. As it is important to maintain the skin’s moisture content, you should use a moisturiser daily. Even more special care should be taken in winters, as the skin tends to become dry fast because of the cold. So in winter, you should massage your body twice or thrice a day with moisturiser.

Sunscreen

Sun is one the most powerful skin wrinklers and wrinkles are the number one sign of ageing skin , and are triggered by exposing your skin to the sun. Always apply a sunscreen and use from an early age even on cloudy days. Remember more importantly that skin cancer can be caused by over exposure to the sun’s harmful rays.

Look after your lips

Nothing looks worse than dry chapped lips, avoid licking them and make sure you apply oil (olive oils from the kitchen is great) a chap stick or lip-gel several times a day.

Sleep

If you are deprived of sleep it shows even one night of restless sleep can leave us feeling and looking far from our best. A good nights sleep is important for skin to look good.

Hydration

Hydration is important for overall health and keeping all body systems functioning at their best. It is recommended you drink at least 7-9 glasses of water a day to keep your skin looking its best, Remember caffeine drinks such as coffee and many energy drinks  dehydrate your body

Diet

Your diet also affects the skin, especially the vitamins that you consume. You should eat vitamin-rich food items such as oats, avocado, other fruits and vegetables. Concentrate on vitamins A and E in proper amounts. Stay away from oily, greasy food.

Exercise

Exercise causes you to burn up calories, sweat and take in more oxygen all  of which aregood for your body ,and like everything else in moderation is best.

Give up smoking

Smoking causes around 86% of deaths from lung cancer, around 80% of deaths from bronchitis and emphysema, and about 17% of deaths from heart disease. More than a quarter of all cancer deaths can be attributed to smoking. Smoking causes premature aging of the skin and can increase wrinkles especially around the lips and eyes. Giving up can be hard so seek support from your local GP or other organisation.

Good dental health

Ensuring you have a good  dental schedual brushing  your teeth at least twice a day, and flossing daily ,regular trips to the dentist, can help your teeth to last a life time. One of the best beauty tips is to smile with a lovely set of teeth.

Stress

Negative stress can have a detrimental impact on your whole body including your skin and hair as well as internal damage to various body systems. There are lots of ways to distress, try to make time for yourself everyday, deep breathing, massage, reflexology and other ways to help keep stress at bay.
